Reviewsday Tuesday: Popular, a memoir

I just want to say. Maya. If you're reading this but you probably aren't and that's okay. You're book is amazing. You inspire me in so many ways. It has a special place in my heart because you're book gives me hope. Thank you.

So. To my actual readers. This. Book. Is. Brilliant! Other book reviews just aren't going to be as good now. I was telling my friends when I finished it that it was up there with Harry Potter. And it is! It's crazy! But HP and Popular are two VERY different books.

Basically popular is the story of a girl, Maya, who finds a book written in the fifties on 'how to be popular' by Betty Cornwell. So, as a social experiment, she decides to put the advice from the book into her modern day life as an 8th grade, middle school student.

This book really says a lot about modern day society and gives an honest insight on the way a teenagers school life works. I can relate to Maya so much. The dorky kid with braces that doesn't talk to many people but has a few good friends. That's me. But I got my braces off so that's one difference. But one thing I don't have that Maya does, is guts. She may not have been the most confident person to start with but she did it. She didn't let what people thought of her get to her. Or maybe she did. But it didn't stop her. I admire her for her guts. Because she's the person I aspire to be. The gutsy, confident, dorky, geek. I think I have the dorky geek part down pat, I'm still working on the gutsy confident part though.

Overall, I loved this book. I recommend it to pretty much any girl whose in high school. And I mean Australian high school. 7-12. It's a beautiful book. I really loved it.

Happy Reviewsday Tuesday.

AGH! It's Tuesday....

Alas. School is being sucky.

It's Tuesday. I had Maths Enrichment, our musical opens is 14 days. Friends are having issues. And I am supposed to do a review. Sorry. Nope. Not gonna happen.

If it seems like I've forgotten about this blog, I promise. I haven't. But maths is proving to be a little bit difficult at the moment so I'm falling behind and I really have to be getting ahead because the musical is in two weeks and I'm going to be missing out on nearly a week of school.

Plus friends are being an issue and then slight family stuff so I'm sorry. I'm just a little bit stressed out right now. I have three weeks until holidays and then I should be back on track. I'm so sorry guys. Three weeks and I should be back to normal.

Just stress.

Phew.

Happy Tuesday.

City of Heavenly Fangirl (Reviewsday Tueaday)

This is the only thing on my mind at the moment. Sorry.

MAJOR SPOLIERS AHEAD!! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!! ENTER AT OWN RISK!

SPOILERS FROM THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS AND THE INFERNAL DEVIES SERIES AND OTHERS FROM CoHF THAT I'VE SEEN FLOATING AROUND THE INTERNET!!

So...

City of Heavenly Fire comes out TODAY!!! Well it's the 27th but when I preordered it, it said the 28th. Either way. I HAVEN'T READ IT YET!!!

I pre-ordered it a few weeks ago and I'm patiently (yeah right) waiting for it to automatically download onto my Kindle.

So today I want to address some things that, I think, need to be resolved in CoHF. And probably will since its the last TMI book. But if its anything like TID, the upcoming series, TDA, will tie in with everything else. Maybe. Or perhaps it will tie in with TLH (another series to be published. This lady keeps busy.) But onto meeting my inner fangirl.

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

1. Malec. The only people I've really ever "shipped". That probably sounds weird because they're a gay couple but (fangirl initiate) they're just so perfect together.

When they broke up at the end if CoLS, I was on holidays and I was reading before I went to bed and I had tears in my eyes and I just kept playing the scene I've and over in my head before I went for sleep. Agh! But that's something that needs to be fixed and I've seen snippets out if CoHF and I think they're getting somewhere. I also read this thing on Pintrest saying that Magnus gave his immortality to Izzy so he could be with Simon. I don't know if it's real or not and I swear, if that happens... I don't know if I'd be happy or not. Because, that leads into my next point.

2. JEM AND TESSA ARE IN IT!! If you haven't read The Infernal Devices and are waiting for CoHF to come out, STOP! Go and read The Infernal Devices then come back. Because I think there's going to be stuff you need to know. Oh, and can someone PLEASE explain to me the end of Clockwork Princess. Where they're on the bridge (which I ADORABLE!) and Jem isn't a silent brother anymore? Is it after CoHF? Or does he become a Silent Brother again?! I'M SO CONFUSED! And I'm not sure if I want Jem and TESSA to be together... I loved them together at the start but then he left her and Will. And became a Silent Brother and everything happened and I didn't like him as much anymore. Plus in the epilogue, recounting Tessa's life up until then. All her friends dying and having kids and grand kids and then leaving them and Will. That was upsetting.

3. SIX CHARACTERS WE KNOW BY NAME WILL DIE!! All I can say is that Sebastion better be one of them. Yes, I still call him Sebastion. I know he's technically Jonathon but Sebastion is easier and less confusing. But I don't know how I feel about characters dying. And I suppose they could be characters I don't really care for like Raphael or Cammile but that still leaves three. And I guess it kind of annoys me now, knowing that 6 WILL die. Although I can kind of prepare myself for reading on the bus. Kinda. Probably not. Which leads me into...

4. Simon's Sacrifice. One of the chapters is called Simon's Sacrifice and at first I thought, "He might have to give up the mark of Cain." Then I remembered that he already gave that up. So now I'm worried again. He can't die. He can't. At least, I'm fairly sure it's illegal to kill off Simon. But then I don't know what he will sacrifice. I just can't wait until I find out. It's killing me.

5. ONE SHIP WON'T COME BACK!! What?! No. Just no. Does she mean that one of them dies? Or that the ship wot get back together? Because that really only means Malec and I've already addressed that. Unless it's a Sebastion ship. Because I'd be happy is Sebastion died.

6. I also read a twitter response photo thingy (whatever). The question was; "what would Sebastion look like if he wasn't part demon?" And Cassandra Clare replied with "you'll find out." YOU CAN'T DO THAT TO US CASSANDRA! You can't lead us on like that. And that leads me to think that if we see Sebastion without the demon part of him, will he become a good guy? And will I change my opinion on him dying? Will he be someone to die? I JUST DON'T KNOW!

7. We will meet characters from TDA. This I'm not really anticipating as much as some of the others but I'm still excited to see what she does with it. And since  TDA is set between TID and TMI, does that mean some of the characters are immortal? Will there be another warlock?! WILL THERE BE POTENTIAL ROMANTIC INTERESTS FOR MAGNUS, SIMON AND (maybe, depending in the Jem situation) TESSA?!?!

8. And I think Sebastian has (or gets) a girlfriend. Or at least he gets to kiss someone... I think..

But I think that's enough for today. I've had my fangirl. I can't wait to read it. I'm not going to have a social like for the next few days. Fun. :) Anyway.

Happy Reviewsday Tuesday.

P.S. Due to my obsession with this book. I may not be able to post as regularly because I'll be too busy reading. I'll probably haven't finished soon-ish though so yeah.

And I realised I used abbreviations a few times.

In order of appearance;
CoHF- City of Heavenly Fire
TMI- The Mortal Instruments
TID- The Infernal Devices
TDA- The Dark Artifices
TLH- The Last Hour
Malec- Magnus and Alec ship name
CoLS- City if Lost Souls.

Reviewsday Tuesday: The Mortal Instruments

I felt like I needed to do a non John Green related review. And I have a lot to say about these series.

I just want to address something quickly. There have been rumours going around that Cassandra Clare, author of the Mortal Instruments series, plagiarised ideas for her best selling novels. Now, from my information, if she was basing it off anything, it was a Harry Potter fan fiction SHE wrote. I don't want to hear your opinion on the matter, Sorry. I just wanted to address that I know that this has been going around and I don't want to hear people hating the books because of it, because I love them. Now, back to the review.

I love this series, I just pre-ordered the next book which comes out in a couple of weeks. (I CAN'T BELIEVE IT!) And it was only $10 to pre-order on Kindle. BOOYEAH!

I have fallen in love with the Shadowhunter world and all the characters in it. In the coming weeks I'm going to be rehashing everything that happened in the series before I read the last one. Because ITS THE LAST ONE!

But there's going to be three more series so it's okay. ;)

There's just something about this series that makes me want to come back for more. It may be the fact that I've always had a love of fantasy and this series bring the fantasy into the real world. Or the fact that it has (in my opinion) that perfect balance of action and romance. Or that it's filled with plot twists and the fact that it blends so well with 'The Infernal Devices'.*

The series is going to be six books, although it can be split into two trilogies pretty easily. Although I don't recommend reading the second half first or anything.

Overall, a brilliant series. I'd definitely recommend it.

Happy Reviewsday Tuesday.

*Seperate review to be done later

Wednesday, 7 May 2014

I'm not good at this.

So I was just about to go to sleep an I remember a certain something that was supposed to be uploaded on Tuesday.

AND I DIDN'T!

I'm so sorry. I have a maths enrichment course on a Tuesday night once a fortnight. So I got home late after that and it honestly, just slipped my mind. Then I had an art excursion today so I got back late and I'm tired and sore and have a headache so yeah.

Sorry about missing it. I have exams next week so that could be an issue but I'll try.

Happy Wednesday.

P.S. Both the maths enrichment program and excursion today were great. Might do a post on them later this week. Hmm...

Reviewsday Tuesday: Will Grayson, will grayson

I don't know why I liked this book so much. I just did.

Will Grayson, will grayson is the story of two teenage boys that just happen to share the exact same name. So when they meet each other (in the weirdest way) I don't really know we're I was going with that sentence. But yeah.

I actually really liked this book. And I honestly don't really know why. I tend to not read books written from a males perspectives, unless it's fantasy or sci-fi ish (Because I love Eragon) mainly because they can get a little...awkward. Especially when reading on the bus.

But it's John Green so yeah. It was written with David Levithan so we need to give him credit as well.

Overall I enjoyed this book (for the third time the post) and would recommend it. It's one of those books that will make you angry and laugh and (maybe, if you're me, reading late at night) cry. And it's overall a really good book.

Happy Reviewsday Tuesday.

P.S. I didn't cry in this book because it was sad. Just so it doesn't turn anyone off. I just found the ending very touching and I started to tear up a little. Although I was reading late at night when emotions are running high.
